- NYC MAG, Motorcycle Advocacy Group, is a Grass Roots MRO, Motorcycle Rights Organization, that started in 2009 by dedicated Motorcyclists.
- The Founders of NYC MAG came together to serve the Motorcycling Community and to assist the NYC Government Officials in understanding the concerns of all Motorcyclist that live and ride in and around NYC.
- On the 17 degree morning of Monday, December 22, 2008, unknown to most New Yorkers, an historic event took place that sent a rumble through the NYC Motorcycling Community. More than 150 people representing all sectors of the NYC's Motorcycle World came together on the steps of City Hall to hold a press conference to protest the extreme measures of a proposed bill titled, Intro 416a.
- The wording of Intro 416a would literally prohibit every motorcycle that was produced from parking in NYC. Boasting excessive fines reaching $5000.00 and permanent confiscation of one's motorcycle, the bill was not only extreme, it was Draconian.
- With the assistance of Council Member Leroy Comrie, the Motorcycling Community's voice was heard. During the first few months of 2009, Motorcyclists visited many Council Members to discuss Intro 416a. Many letters and emails were written to the Elected Officials opposing the bill. These letters were supported by Motorcycle Dealerships, a photo essay, and a video that was created by future NYC MAG Founders.
- Within hours after the September 2009 rewrite of 416a came to light, a meeting was held to determine how to deal with the modified bill. From this meeting, emerged five motorcyclist that were consistently working to bring factual information to the Council Members attention.
- These five Motorcyclists formed NYC MAG.
- Realizing that our Elected Officials must deal with thousands of issues every year, we knew that it was the responsibility of the Motorcycling Community to reach out with the information that would help the Council Members make informed decisions.
- We are thankful to all the Council Members and their staff who have taken the time to meet with us and listen intently to all we have to share.
- As we enter 2010, NYC MAG is recognized by many Elected Officials as being a mature and positive voice of the Motorcycling Community. We have enthusiastically joined Officials during meetings and events which has helped us to become known to them on a first name basis.
- The Founders of NYC MAG are thankful to all who came together within the Motorcycling Community to address the issues of 2009. We know the effort to develop a productive working relationship with all Government Officials will continue in 2010. We encourage all who support or ride 2 and 3 wheeled vehicles to join NYC MAG.
- All of us together can and will make a positive impact for all the Communities of NYC.
